Vibrant cities, beautiful countryside, delicious food, a proud culture, a long history, and plentiful gorgeous beaches all combine to make France a fabulous place for a family vacation. Long stretches of coastlines to the North, South, and West of the country mean that there are heaps of terrific beaches to enjoy with your kids. And that’s before you even factor in the country’s numerous islands scattered around the mainland, river and lake islands, and French territories far across the seas.
If you’re puzzling over which French beach to take the kids to next, here are some great ideas:
Plage des Marinieres, Cote d’Azur
Located on the sublime French Riviera and within Villefranche-sur-Mer, soak up the vibe of the Med without the large crowds. The beaches close to Nice are often, unsurprisingly, a magnet for families seeking sun, sea, and sand in a beautiful setting and close to plenty of amenities, attractions, and activities. If you are more a fan of quieter places, this is a great spot to pick. Dazzling blue waters and soft sands await … coupled with a charming and traditional seaside atmosphere. The nearby Plage de la Darse is another good option, and the kids can have fun enjoying the combination of sandy patches and the pebbled shores.
St-Pierre-Quiberon, Brittany
A long sandy beach is the primary draw to this northern part of the country, although the entire Quiberon Peninsula is very attractive and appealing. Connected to the mainland by just a small piece of land, it is almost its own beautiful island. Several historic sites can be found close by and the area is ideal for families that enjoy lovely long and scenic coastal walks. Relax on the beach, join in with a number of activities, including lively water sports, explore charming fishing villages … the choice is yours!
Pyla Beach, Gironde
One of Arcachon’s superb beaches on the Atlantic coast, Pyla Beach is one of the area’s best for amazing seaside views. A fairly new town, it was once a favourite spot for the local wealthy, with a strong belief that the sea water, salty air, and mild climate had beneficial health properties.
La Plage Richelieu, Languedoc Roussillon
A lovely beach that is nestled right next to some gorgeous natural areas, this is an ideal choice for families who love to mix pleasant beach days with days filled with wildlife, nature, scenery, and adventures! Located on the Mediterranean Coast you can enjoy long sunny days and delicious cuisine.
Minimes Beach, Charente-Maritime
Minimes Beach is in the popular area of La Rochelle. La Rochelle is home to many fine beaches, but Minimes is a particular hotspot. It can get busy, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy a family vacation there … it means that there is a higher chance for your kids to make new little friends and meet new people! The Old Port makes for an interesting trip and there is also an excellent aquarium where your children can learn more about the underwater world.
Where are your favourite French beaches to visit with the kids? Have you been to any of those mentioned?
