Europe is home to a fantastic selection of ski resorts, spread between a number of different countries.  If you’re thinking about where to take the kids next, here are some great ideas:

La Plagne, France

Eleven different charming villages make up the ski area at France’s lovely La Plagne, each one offering a different vibe and character.  A family favourite, there are extensive runs that are suitable for skiers of all different levels, and even beginners can have fun with the abundance of ski schools and starter slopes. There are plenty of things to do off the skis too, such as exploring ice caves and visiting Igloo Village, riding the luge and bobsleigh, regular sledding, and tobogganing.

Soldeu, Andorra

The beautiful Pyrenees of pretty Andorra are a great family-friendly destination.  Combine endless days of fun on the slopes with excellent low cost shopping.  Skiing, snowboarding, sledding, dog-sledding, walking with snowshoes, skidoos, igloo-building, and archery are just a few activities that are sure to excite you and your kids.  There is a top class ski school for people of all ages.

Cervinia, Italy

A gorgeous resort with plenty of small-town charms and local hospitality, enjoy the Italian culture whilst skiing to your heart’s content on the smooth and easy slopes.  Kids can enjoy the snow, have lessons, or join one of the children’s clubs.  Enjoy the sunshine, pizza, and pasta of pretty Cervinia!

Zakopane, Poland

Offering terrific value for money and a fabulous experience for the whole family, Zakopane is rapidly rising in popularity.  In the heart of the stunning Tatras Mountains, did you know that the resort was also blessed by the Pope?!  Ride one of the longest cable cars in Europe and admire the sweeping views, enjoy skiing and snowboarding on powdery slopes, take a trip to nearby picturesque Krakow, relax on a horse drawn sleigh ride, delight in delicious Polish cuisine, bask in the relaxed atmosphere, and, if your family is feeling adventurous, have a go on snowmobiles and quad-bikes.

Alpbach, Austria

A pretty and quaint little village in the heart of the Tirol, Alpbach is a popular destination for families.  The child-friendly ski school makes it perfect for newbies and there is a great selection of places to eat, drink, and sleep.  If you fancy a rest from the slopes hit the glistening outdoor ice rink or take a dip in the lovely indoor swimming pool.

Jahorina, Bosnia and Herzegovia

If your family loves to combine days of active adventures with exploring the local area and learning more about culture, Jahorina may be just what you are looking for.  Located close to the country’s capital city of Sarajevo, there are plenty of options for interesting day trips and excursions.  A previous location for the Winter Olympic Games, it is more suited to families that already have a good amount of skiing experience under their belts.
